More details have been released about how a woman was stabbed at her Colts Neck home on Saturday night.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office say a man who had been hitchhiking on nearby Route 34 was trying to get away from police who had been alerted to his presence by other residents.

The man tried to steal a car from a Bray Street home but was confronted by the owner. He  his way into the home, stabbed a 41-year-old woman, grabbed her keys and took off with the car.

The unidentified victim was hospitalized.

The suspect is described as a white male, skinny with curly dirty blonde hair last seen in a yellow shirt and backpack. His vehicle was recovered about 30 minutes later in Aberdeen at Strathmore Plaza on Route 34.

Police used a helicopter and a K9 unit to track the man without success. They will try to use video from stores in Strathmore Plaza to identify the suspect.
