Shots Fired At Princeton’s Nassau Hall Unfounded Following Police Investigation

Princeton University says reports of shots being fired around Nassau Hall were unfounded and issued an all clear late Tuesday night.

Shots were first heard around 8:00 p.m. and the University in a series of tweets and in a statement on their website said police cordoned off the area around the historic hall which is thie largest building on the campus.

Princeton police Capt. Nick Sutter tells NJ.com that a faculty member inside Nassau Hall reported what she thought were four gunshots just before 8 p.m. He says officers were sent to the scene, got the faculty member out and searched the building.

People were advised to stay away from the area as police conducted a search. Plainsboro Police and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office were among the police agencies responding. Helicopters were seen hovering over the campus as well.

The student newspaper Daily Princetonian tweeted that those attending a concert at Richardson Hall left without incident.

 

Nassau Hall is Princeton’s administrative center. Princeton’s website calls Nassau Hall the centerpiece of its campus and a university and national landmark. It says it moved classes from Newark to Nassau Hall in Princeton when the building was completed in 1756.
