A pedestrian is medevacked to Jersey Shore University Medical Center Friday morning after being hit by a car in Manchester Township.

Police say 83-year old Patrice Benjamin of Manchester hit 76-year old Leroy Lathrop as he was crossing Buckingham Drive near Thornbury Lane in the Leisure Village West section of the township, causing him to fall onto and off the car before hitting the sidewalk around 10 am.

Lathrop suffered serious injuries to his head, neck and extremities and was listed in critical condition.

Benjamin's 2010 Kia Optima sustained damage to the windshield and hood areas from the impact.

She was transported to Community Medical Center in an ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

This crash is being investigated by Patrolman Ian Bole of the Manchester Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Manchester First Aid Squad, Quality Medical Transport, MONOC Paramedics, Ocean County Prosecutors Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
