Motorists continue to see sharply lower prices at the pumps in New Jersey.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in New Jersey on Friday was $3.27, down 7 cents from last week. That's also much lower than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.82.

The national average price was $3.37, down 5 cents from last week. That's also much lower than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.78.

“Most drivers continue to pay lower prices each consecutive day with the trend expected to continue through the remainder of the year thanks to abundant gasoline supplies, the end of the summer driving season, lower oil costs and the switchover to winter-blend gasoline,” said Tracy Noble, spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic.

Troipical Storm Karen has caused energy production in the Gulf of Mexico to temporarily be halted. The storm is expected to make landfall Saturday night as a tropical storm and strengthen slightly before heading to the northeast and away from the region allowing production to continue early in the week. Any prolonged closure could result in a slight uptick.
