The second annual Active Military Appreciation Day will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Taylor Pavilion on 5th and Ocean Avenues and the beach between 5th and 6th Avenues.  The event is held to recognize the dedication of active duty and reserve military members and their families from all branches of the armed forces.

Expected to attend are men and women from the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Air Force, U.S. National Guard, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy.  Mayor Matthew Doherty is excited about the event.  He says "it's our way to say thank you for their service and sacrifice.  In addition, we want their families to come too because when they leave for combat, the family is left behind here to get through.  It's tough for a lot of people."

Those in attendance will enjoy free beach access, music and games, and a catered lunch with food donated by multiple organizations.

Military members and their families must provide military identification at the check-in table at the Taylor Pavilion on the day of the event.
