Matawan Navy Petty Officer Wraps Up Seven Months Overseas
A U.S. Navy recruit from Matawan completes seven months in Pacific trouble spots in one of the most pivotal positions - maintaining the gear that keeps tabs on his ship's most vital alert system.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Masaaki Davis is a surface sonar technician aboard the missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88), which returned to its San Diego home port in November after deployment in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
According to Navy officials, the Preble's 509-foot length, 59-foot width and 9,400-ton displacement renders it quick, maneuverable and flexible for surface warfare as well as defenses against submarines and aircraft.
