Jerry Pierre was run down by a North Jersey Coastliner around 9 PM, according to The Asbury Park Press.

NJ Transit spokesperson Nancy Snyder relates that the engineer sounded a warning and desperately tried to apply brakes while he watched Pierre  move past the crossing gates and head into the oncoming train's path. He died at the scene. None of the 20 passengers aboard reported any injuries.

Pierre had served prison time for robbery and was released in 2010, according to New Jersey's online prison files.
