Prosecutors say 19-year-old Tyrik Haynes did not know the victim. He faces charges including attempted murder in Thursday’s attack.

Tyrik is being held on $1million bail.

The condition of the victim has been upgraded to good reports the Asbury Park Press.

“Kerry and her family are grateful for the outpouring of public support and care she is receiving at Jersey Shore University Medical Center,” JSUMC spokesman Rob Cavanaugh tells the Asbury Park Press. “At the moment, they kindly request privacy to heal during this difficult time.”

Haynes is also accused of setting fire last month to a cat that was later found dead.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had said Haynes adopted the cat from a Petco store next to the Bed Bath & Beyond. But Petco said Friday he did not receive the cat from either the store or its adoption partner, Furr Friends in Need.

Petco said a Furr Friends in Need phone interview with the man determined he didn’t qualify for an adoption.
