HOLMDEL — Two residents who came home Saturday night got quite the surprise when they found two people already there robbing the home, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, the residents opened their front door on Banyan Boulevard and were "rushed" by two people with their faces covered. The male resident was beaten with a baseball bat while a woman was "punched multiple times," after entering the house.

The two were then bound in their home while the unwelcome guests took cash, jewelry, and other property before fleeing the statement said. After freeing himself the man was able to call police who then enlisted the help of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office on a joint investigation.

The man and the woman were taken to the hospital for treatment. The statement said both suffered facial injuries with the man also suffering a broken nose. By Sunday they had been released from the hospital.

Police are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact Det. Eric Hernando of the Holmdel Police Department at 732-946-2820 or Det. Wayne Raynor of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office 1-800-533-7443.
