The National Weather Service in Mount Holly says it appears it

could have been a developing wall cloud below the base of a cloud

that often forms tornados.

People watched in awe and ran away as the cloud moved towards the center of the football field according to WCAU TV.

Thunder and lightning filled the air as the dark clouds dropped  rain and hail on the 437 members of the class of 2012 and their families.

As the ceremony got to graduates whose last name ended in “G” the storm began to strengthen and the crowd began to leave the field.

A Galloway Police lieutenant told the Galloway Patch eight to 10 injuries were reported, mostly seizures and asthma.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
