The Eagles held Sunday morning’s practice, but Andy Reid wasn’t present. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman told reporters that Reid asked the team to go forward with training camp.

Edward Schupp, Chief of Police at Lehigh, said a 911 call was made at 7:20 a.m. Schupp said Garrett Reid was deceased upon a policeman’s arrival at the campus dormitory. Schupp added “there were no suspicious activities.”

“What I can tell you is this morning we were contacted by the Lehigh campus police department and (were) requested to respond for the discovery of a deceased male,” said Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek. “We are conducting an investigation with the cooperation of the Lehigh campus police department and I personally pronounced Mr. Reid deceased at the scene.”

Players gathered for a team prayer before the walk through began, and were told not to speak to reporters afterward.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was among players to express condolences to Andy Reid through their Twitter accounts.

“My condolences go out to Coach Reid and his family. Stay strong and we LOVE you coach,” he wrote.

The troubled Garrett had problems with drugs that landed him in jail following a 2007 arrest after a traffic accident and subsequent 23-month conviction on drug charges when he was found to be high on heroin at the time.

Garrett later smuggled drugs into prison by stashing pills in his rectum.

During his plea hearing, Reid apologized for causing the accident and injuring the other driver.

Andy Reid, the father of five, took a leave of absence from the Eagles during the 2007 offseason to spend more time with his family. Reid is in his 14th season in Philadelphia. He’s led the Eagles to nine playoff appearances, six NFC East titles, five conference championship games and one Super Bowl loss.

“We’ve been with Andy for a long time. He’s always been strong for us; we’re going to be strong for him right now,” Roseman added. “As a father and a friend, we’re all hurting.”

STATEMENT FROM THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

“The Philadelphia Eagles are sad to announce that Garrett Reid, the oldest son of head coach Andy Reid, has died.

Garrett Reid, 29, had been attending Eagles training camp with his father and was found in his room this morning. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and defensive coordinator Juan Castillo oversaw the team’s walk-through this morning, and will oversee the team until Reid’s return.

This news is heartbreaking for everyone in the Eagles family.

Our hearts go out to Andy, his wife, Tammy, and their children. The team will share further updates as information becomes available.”
