Christie Greeted By Protesters At Zuckerberg Fundraiser In California [VIDEO]
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was greeted by protesters outside the suburban San Francisco home of Mark Zuckerberg as the Facebook founder hosted a fundraiser for Christie.
Protesters that included nurses, the “Raging Grannies” and womens rights supporters carried blue-and-white signs in the residential Palo Alto neighborhood that read, ““Zuck + Chris, hands off Planned Parenthood.” They accused Christie of being “anti-women” for cutting $7.5million in Planned Parenthood funding from New Jersey’s budget reports the Huffington Post, which said the fundraiser was Zuckerberg’s first political event.
“Mark and [wife] Priscilla [Chan] are smart people, but we’re wondering if they thought this through,” CREDO political director Becky Bond told the Huffington Post.. “Clearly he’s starting to think about how to spend his billions to help political causes. But by funding Chris Christie, he’s funding the war on women.”
Bond also pointed out to the San Francisco Chronicle that Zuckerberg “made billions by building a community of people – including millions of women. … Facebook is about being open and connected, and there’s no one more likely (than Christie) to take us back to the Stone Age.”
Supporting Education Reform
Christie went in a back entrance and did not interact with the protesters. Among the guests at the $3,800-per-plate dinner for Christie’s re-election campaign were former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who protesters called a “torturer.”
In a prepared statement, the Zuckerberg’s reiterated their support for Christie citing his improvements to education.
“Mark and Priscilla have worked closely with Governor Christie on education reform in the Newark school system. They admire his leadership on education reform and other issues and look forward to continuing their important work together on behalf of Newark’s school children.”
Zuckerberg first met Christie when he donated $100 million to the Newark public schools.
