Today’s segment is dedicated to a group of ladies, young and old who are committed to physical fitness and friendship.  They will celebrate their years together exercising through dance and music under the management of Cheryl Kearney at the Jazzercise location on Manchester Avenue in Forked River.  They are planning to perform a flash mob dance in the parking lot of the facility this morning if the weather cooperates.  If you happen to be driving by and see them then honk your horn and acknowledge their efforts to remain young at heart.

Later today they will get together for lunch at the nearby Portuguese Grill where rumor has it they will be treated to a specialty dance presentation by former Toms River High School South Athletic Director Bruce Mulford.  We’ll try and obtain a video at a later date.

What a night Thursday was for sports fans in our area.  You had the Rangers and Devils playing deciding game 7’s in their respective Stanley Cup Playoff series with each decided by a goal.  In the case of the Devils they needed to go into the second overtime before winning in Florida.  The best part is all three local hockey teams are in the Eastern Conference semifinals with New Jersey playing the Flyers beginning Sunday in Philadelphia and the Rangers squaring off with the Washington Capitals starting tomorrow afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

Also last night you had the NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall which more than anything I love because of the crowd shots and reactions.  These are the most passionate (or something else) of football fans and my guess is there are many with below average IQ’s.  As the draft was set to begin the top college players in attendance were introduced and many of them were loudly booed…..for what?

The other thing I love is the long and warm embraces between the first round picks and Commissioner Roger Goodell.  I mean they hug for a while like family members and it’s often touching.  Funny thing is those same guys will one day want to grab the commissioner’s neck during a labor dispute or something else.

I don’t know a lot about it but it would be a sin if Congress allows for an increase in student loan interest rates at a time when more and more students and families have to borrow money to pay for the cost of a college education.  Like everything else this is a political issue but to make 18 to 22 year-olds the pawns in their game is simply pathetic.
