Johnny Depp Will Star in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel, Has a Cameo in the First One
No scandal can keep an actor down for long, as is the case with Johnny Depp, who has signed on to co-star in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel (which will be the second in the five-film franchise). But that’s not all — apparently, he also has a very small role in the first installment, coming out this November.
’Jurassic World 2’ Currently Casting More Kids for Dinosaurs to Scare
We’ve gotten tons of information about the vague feel of J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World 2 — it’ll deal, metaphorically, with the modern-day treatment of animals — but we haven’t heard much about the actual plot. Today, though, it sounds like Universal is finally getting the ball rolling with news of an open casting call for a child actor. Jurassic World attempted to update the franchise for modern audiences, but at least one tradition has stayed the same: it’s not a Jurassic Park movie without kids running form dinosaurs.
‘Fantastic Beasts’ Isn’t Just Getting One Sequel, It’s Getting Four
Warner Bros. is seriously banking on a resurgence of Harry Potter fever. At a fan event in London on Thursday, J.K. Rowling herself confirmed that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which hasn’t even come out in theaters yet, will be a five-film franchise.
Disney’s ‘Lion King’ Remake Taps Veteran Screenwriter Jeff Nathanson
With the news that Jon Favreau was directing a live-action remake of arguably THE most popular Disney movie of all time, The Lion King, people were undoubtedly excited. Favreau successfully launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2008’s Iron Man, believed by many to still be the best Avengers movie, and has had a few notable successes since, including Chef in 2014 and this summer’s almost-entirely-CGI remake of The Jungle Book. The latter did so well that Disney hired Favreau again to direct The Lion King, and today it was announced that the film has found a screenwriter.
‘Star Trek Beyond’ Director Justin Lin Is Hopping Behind the Wheel of ‘Hot Wheels’
Hasbro currently stands at the top of the pile of toy-based live-action movies with a fifth Transformers chapter on the way, but Mattel is slowly catching up. With the Max Steel feature film on the way later this year, the toy company is revving its engines for another potential franchise starter, and they’ve got none other than Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin signed on for the project.
Daniel Radcliffe Will Hack into a Mexican Cartel in ‘We Do Not Forget’
Oddly enough, Daniel Radcliffe has proven to be an indie film powerhouse since the Harry Potter films ended. And what a year he’s had: along with a role as a tech genius in Now You See Me 2, he’s played a farting corpse in Swiss Army Man that taught us the nature of being human, and an FBI agent who infiltrates a Neo-Nazi organization in Imperium. Now he’s signed on with Zachary Quinto for a movie about Anonymous and the Mexican cartel Los Zetas.
