NEWARK — New Jersey Devils fans have no issues standing for or singing the National Anthem.

Lauralie Mufute of Jersey City, who sang the national anthem at Friday night's game at the Prudential Center in Newark, got some help from the crowd to finish the job.

Standing next to a State Police honor guard,  Mufute started strong.  But as she got to the song's second verse, she stopped singing and tried to start again. The crowd immediately jumped in and finished the job.

"The crowd was quick to join in and finish the song, a classic hockey assist," Devils Vice President Hockey Communications & Team Operations Pete Albietz told New Jersey 101.5.

Albietz said there was no microphone failure. "The fact she stood there and didn't leave is a testament to her. She stayed strong in the face of adversity," he said.

Devils stadium announcer Kevin Clark told New Jersey 101.5 he was proud of Lauralie for staying on the ice and the fans for immediately picking up the anthem.

Clark said that Lauralie ran through the song twice without any problems before the The Rock was opened to fans.

"It was a great moment when the fans stepped in," her father Eddie Mufute said in a Facebook message.

It Lauralie's second time performing the song, according to a video posted by Next Step Broadway. Albietz said that Lauralie "crushed it" in her previous performance and could be back to try it again this season.

The Devils lost the game to the San Jose Sharks, 3-0.
