92.7 WOBM News – Flash Briefing June 7 Morning

It'll be Republican and current Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno battling Democrat Phil Murphy in the race for the Governor to succeed Chris Christie next year.

Guadagno won pretty handily in both Monmouth and Ocean County's over her Republican rivals while Murphy's dominance was less at the shore and more in North Jersey, and you can see it all on our interactive map.

Locally, elections results from the primaries, which you can find on the Ocean County Clerks page include a number of races on the Republican side and Democratic side.

A couple of races include Republican Maria Maruca defeating Justin Lamb in the Toms River Ward One Race and she'll now go up against Democrat Anthony Colucci in November.

Current Brick Township Mayor John Ducey won his primary last night and his opponent in November will be Dominick Brando who defeated Martin Ebert on the Democratic side last night.

In other news, a new study by the American Institute for Cancer Research found that just one alcoholic drink a day can increase your risk for breast cancer.

Breast surgeon Dr. Debra Camal with Hackensack Meridian Health explains that it's the result of how your body breaks down the alcohol you consume with the chemical compound found in your drink...Acetaldehyde.

“The acetaldehyde is a chemical that tends to mutate your DNA,”said Camal. “When your genetic material is changed or mutated, some of those mutations can lead to an increased cancer risk.”

She says you don’t have to remove wine or beer from your diet completely but cutting it down to once or twice a week, exercising often and eating healthier foods such as apricots, carrots or kale can help lower your risk of getting breast cancer.
