The family says in a statement that the operation Wednesday on 7-year-old Jane Richard at Boston Children's Hospital closed the wound and will allow for the fitting of a prosthesis.

The family says Jane also has had to deal with infections and faces more surgeries.

Her brother, Martin, died in the April 15 explosions.

Their parents, Bill and Denise, were also injured but were released after a week in the hospital. Denise Richard has still not recovered sight in one eye. Bill Richard is healing from shrapnel wounds and burns but has not yet completely recovered from hearing loss.
