The new year is right around the corner!  Many cultures believe that eating specific foods on the first day of the new year bring luck, wealth and prosperity.

New Years Eve is a time for partying, forgetting the old year that has passed.  But New Years Day brings the promise of a better year.

Here are 5 foods that some believe if eaten, bring great things.

Lentils.  They symbolize forward progress.

Greens.  They symbolize, no surprise here, money.

Fish.  Fish symbolizes forward progress and wealth, however, stay away from chicken and lobster, as they symbolize going backwards.

Grapes.  In Spain, it is tradition to eat 12 grapes at midnight, with each grape representing the months in the old year.  One grape may be sweet while another may be sour, representing the good and bad months that have passed.

And finally, Cake.  Round and ring shaped baked goods (donuts!) are tradition to have on New Years Eve for luck in the new year.

They almost lost me until I saw Cake! I'm in!

Happy New Year to you and yours!  May 2012 bring you peace and prosperity.  It's never too late to make your dreams come true.  Move forward fearlessly!  xoxo
