You booze, you lose this weekend on Route 9 in Berkeley Township
You should never drink and drive and police officers are going to be keeping an eye on you this weekend along Route 9 in Berkeley Township.
There will be a special DWI/Traffic checkpoint detail this weekend making sure motorists are obeying the law.
Local police agencies, Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit will be there focusing on both intoxicated and drug impaired drivers.
The program targets those under the influence of alcohol, but will also pay close attention to those violating all New Jersey Traffic Statutes, according to the OCPO.
The detail comes as a proactive measure to slow people down and influence responsible driving along this stretch of roadway known for high vehicle/pedestrian traffic during the busy summer season.
"It is so very important for drivers along the entire length of the Route 9 roadway to use an extra measure of caution," Joe Coronato, Ocean County Prosecutor said. "Tragedies can only be avoided if drivers slow down and absolutely don't drive impaired."
The Prosecutors office reminds motorists that inattentive and aggressive drivers are always targets of law enforcements' regular patrols, and the purpose of this checkpoint program is to detect, educate, deter, arrest, and vigorously prosecute impaired drivers, while also making Ocean County roads safer.
The checkpoint program is funded in part by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety and is operated/coordinated by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Vehicular Homicide Unit under the direction of Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Michael Weatherstone.
