There’s no doubt tonight’s football game between Toms River North and Middletown South is big, especially to the players and coaches and all of those associated with the football programs and the schools themselves.

We in the media have built this one up pretty good and while it’s not the first #1 versus #2 game in late October it does have all the ingredients of a truly special confrontation.  You have that rare Ocean versus Monmouth County angle and you can throw in Middletown South’s 17-game winning streak and Toms River North’s 16 consecutive wins.

Add the fact that both teams won state sectional championships last December and will be favored to do the same in six weeks,  they’ve combined for 62 playoff victories and 16 sectional titles with the Eagles winning ten of them.

As for stars on the field, well the Eagles have do-it-all Maxx Imsho and the Mariners are led by one of the most dynamic players I’ve watched in over 40 years, quarterback Mike Husni.  The stage is set for tonight’s game which will be broadcast on 1160 & 1310AM and streamed live at shoresportsnetwork.com.  By the way, who am I picking?  Check out the Blue Ridge Heating & Cooling Football Picks on shoresportsnetwork.com.

Today is also the final day of the 105.7 The Hawk Billboard Radiothon for Ocean of Love.  Since late Monday afternoon Andy Chase has been living high atop a billboard set-up in the Target/Lowes parking lot off Hooper Avenue in Toms River.  In its 18th year our sister station has helped raise nearly $1.8 million for Ocean of Love which supports families dealing with childhood cancer in our area.  The goal as it’s been for many years is to raise $105,700 so your help would be appreciated.  Stop by to see Andy or click 1057thehawk.com to donate.

This week Linda Gillick announced she is stepping down after 29 years as the Executive Director of Ocean of Love.  Sure would like to see her go out on top.
