We all have those intersections - those that we dread coming to because it's almost always a hassle. Whether it's the traffic pattern, the timing of the light, or the condition of the road, there are plenty of candidates for Worst Intersection in Ocean County.

I have two that I find to be particularly irritating -

The one in the picture above, the intersection of Main Street and Water Street in downtown Toms River.

I don't know what it is, but I'm sure this light has it out for me. I go through this intersection every single workday, and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I never make this light. It doesn't matter what time I get there, the light is always either red or just turning red.

And it's a long light.

The other one that drives me crazy is Van Zile Road and Route 70 in Brick.

On both sides of Van Zile Road, there are two lanes - the left lane is for people going straight across or turning left onto Route 70, and the right lane is for people going straight across or turning right onto Route 70.

The problem is that this intersection can get backed way up during busy times. It's not unusual to have to wait through two, three or even more cycles of the light before you make it through.

But a lot of the people who are forced to wait are those who want to turn right onto Route 70. All it takes is for one person in the right lane who wants to go straight to block all of the people who could, legally, turn right on red when traffic allows.

I think a right turn only lane would make a huge difference in the traffic backups here.
