From the cast of "Jersey Shore" to Princess Leia and Han Solo, pop culture icons have been the go-to getups for Halloween for decades.

Spirit Halloween Stores recently put out a list of the most popular pop culture halloween costumes each year.

For example, in 1990, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were hot.

Spongebob Squarepants got a lot of exposure in 2004.

And last year, the superheroes of The Avengers were flying off of costume shop shelves.
