One of the nice things about Ocean County, both North-South and East-West, is that it's pretty easy to get around on the major roadways. But sometimes, we all have reasons for choosing local roads and shortcuts to get to a place that we could just take a highway to.

Sometimes I take alternate routes just to change things up - it can get boring taking the Parkway every day, so why not go the back ways between Toms River and points North?

Other times, you might get somewhere faster on a road like the Parkway or 195, but a local road is many times more scenic. I think of taking the back roads through places like Jackson, instead of 195. Sure, it'll take longer, but you'll be rewarded by the scenery if you're not in a rush.

And then there's the "let's avoid the tourist traffic" routes. Understandably, most of us don't like to be too open about those routes, lest they lose their "best kept secret" status and get clogged with visitor traffic.

So what are some of your favorite Ocean County alternate routes? Tell us in the comments section!
