The warning Wednesday comes after a Middletown man was hospitalized after being stung by one of the dime-sized jellies.

Experts have said their sting is filled with venom that can lead to serious medical conditions.

Clinging jellyfish are native to the Pacific Ocean, but have recently surfaced in the Atlantic. A fisherman caught one last week in the Barnegat Bay, near the Point Pleasant Inlet.

Scientists think the jellies may have made it here by clinging to ships, according to WABC 7.
