Two Monmouth County Law Enforcement Officers graduate FBI National Academy

Looking to add to their background and crime fighting knowledge, two Monmouth County Law Enforcement Officers helped represent the Jersey Shore in graduating from the FBI's National Academy.

Jeffrey Wilbert, Captain of Detectives in the Criminal Investigations Section of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and Belmar Police Chief Andrew Huisman were among the 223 graduates from 48-states overall in the latest session, as well as from Washington D.C., 18-countries, five military organizations and five federal civilian organizations the 271st overall in Quantico, Virginia.

Both men completed the 10-week program which the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office says focuses on improving the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide.

The course also offers a chance for U.S. and international law enforcement managers to be educated in a curriculum focused on intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science.

All participants also learn  advanced communication skills, leadership and fitness training.

The program is only offered to select officers with proven professional records within their agencies.

Wilbert and Huisman were both nominated by their agency heads to enter into this academy because of "demonstrated leadership qualities".

The officers selected to attend the program usually have about 21 years of law enforcement experience under their belt and many return to their agencies and are able to serve in executive-level positions, the MCPO said.

Wilbert is one of those such officers.

"Attending the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy was an amazing experience, especially being surrounded by so many respected domestic and international law enforcement executive leaders for 10 weeks,” Wilbert said. “As we in law enforcement work hard to forge relationships with our communities, it is also extremely important that we expand our law enforcement communication and networks.

Although I was the one who attended the National Academy this session, our agency, county and state were all represented in the highest regard. In order for this opportunity to happen, many thanks go to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Executive Staff for their endorsement and support, to those who covered for me during the academy, and especially to my wife and family.”

Wilbert who began his career in law enforcement in 1995, spent ten years following graduation from the Monmouth County Police Academy working for departments in Manasquan, Colts Neck and Ocean Township before being hired at the MCPO in 2005 where has primarily worked in the Major Crimes Bureau.

His success comes as no surprise given his dedication and professionalism as a respected investigator and officer in this office.”
