Drug deals probably can be done more discreetly than in busy store parking lots in midafternoon, but Brick Township police say the pair they arrested Friday were trying to do just that.

Officers on surveillance in the Target lot on Route 70 apprehended Mark A. Bartolotti, 26, and Leonard C. Genna, 52, both of the township, after an exchange at about 3:30 PM, police said.

After the officers approached them and identified themselves, Bartolotti bolted but was chased down and found to be holding 28 Roxicet tablets, police said.

Authorities said they also seized a 2010 Subaru Legacy and $400 cash.

Bartolotti was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting arrest and obstructing justice, and placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River with bail set at $10,000.

Genna was jailed at the Ocean County lockup on charges with possession, possession with intent to distribute, and distribution. His bail was set at $25,000.

Neither was given the option for release on payment of 10 percent, police said.
