I love going out to eat, and I think we all have our favorite types of restaurants. But have you ever wondered what makes a restaurant "traditional"?

What Is a Traditional Restaurant?

A traditional restaurant is usually a place that sticks with the familiar foods, recipes, and cooking methods that are connected to a certain culture, region, or style of cooking.

For example, a traditional Italian restaurant might serve dishes like lasagna, meatballs, and classic pasta. A traditional Mexican restaurant might have tacos, enchiladas, and tamales.

It's not necessarily about the restaurant being old. It's more about keeping traditional foods and cooking methods alive.

What Makes It Traditional?

The food is obviously a big part of it. Traditional restaurants often use recipes that have been passed down through generations or are well known in a particular culture.

The ingredients, preparation, and even the atmosphere can also play a role. The decorations, music, and the way the food is served can all add to that traditional feeling.

Here in New Jersey, we have plenty of restaurants that fit the description, from Italian restaurants and diners to Greek, Portuguese, and other ethnic restaurants.

I think sometimes there's just something nice about sitting down and enjoying a meal that's been prepared the same way people have enjoyed it for generations.

What is the BEST Traditional Restaurant In New Jersey?

According to Reader's Digest, "You can’t talk old-school Atlantic City without talking about gentlemen’s clubs of years gone by. Knife & Fork Inn was established in 1912 by the Atlantic City mayor at the time, William Riddle, Commodore Louis Kuehnle and their cronies as an exclusive men’s drinking and dining club with a special “ladies lounge” located upstairs. Women were prohibited from entering until summoned by the men."

They added that today at the Knife & Fork Inn, "The Ladies Lounge welcomes all who care to take in those gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean, while the main dining room warmly invites guests (yes, women as well) to a feast of sustainable surf and turf (think: king salmon with warm potato salad, and Short Rib Bourguignon) surrounded by decor that evokes yesteryear. Bonus: After dinner, you can stroll one of the best beach boardwalks in America."
