Toms River woman dies after being hit by car on Route 37

A Toms River woman has died after being hit by a car while crossing Route 37 near Route 166 on Saturday night.

Police were dispatched around 11:00 PM to the intersection of Route 166 and Route 37 for a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

NJSP Troopers, who happened upon the accident just after it occurred, were administering CPR to the female victim when Toms River Police arrived at the scene.

Toms River EMS and MONOC paramedics then responded and continued CPR as they transported the victim to Community Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Charles R. Jordan 4^th, 22, Manchester, was operating a 2006 Nissan Altima westbound in the left travel lane of Route 37.

As Jordan approached the intersection with Route 166, the traffic signal had turned to green and he continued into the intersection when police say he then struck Cheryl Cwiklik, 45, of Toms River who was walking with her husband, Kenneth Robinson, 48, of Toms River.

Witnesses told police that when Robinson and Cwiklik began to cross Route 37, the traffic signal for Route 37 east/west had just changed to green.

Jordan was fully corporative in the investigation and was treated at Community Medical Center for minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Robinson was was uninjured in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing by Toms River Traffic Safety officer Adam Koeppen and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
