Toms River man who booked it on foot at traffic stop is arrested
A Toms River man who felt the need for speed in his car and with his legs has been arrested for running away from a traffic stop.
Peter O'Neill, 53, was pulled over by police on Monday night around 9:45 pm after driving erratically heading west on Route 37 crossing Vaughn Avenue.
Police say O'Neill tried eluding officers before eventually pulling over but instead of staying in the vehicle he took off on foot.
A search for O'Neill then began where Toms River Police were joined by Island Heights Police and Ocean County Sheriff's Department Officers which at first came up empty.
On Tuesday night, O'Neill was found and arrested at Riverwood Park and charged with Obstruction of Law and Eluding Law Enforcement, Failure to Stop.
He is currently lodged at Ocean County Jail pending a hearing.
