As the calendar inches ever closer to the 4th of July, there are a lot of Independence Day celebrations scheduled throughout Ocean County. While most people love fireworks, not all family pets appreciate the displays. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe during summer celebrations:

Leave your pets at home
While most dogs love an outing with the family, when that outing includes loud fireworks displays, leaving them at home is probably the best course of action. Fido may miss out on the day with the family, but being in their safe and comfortable home will be better in the long run.

Turn on a radio or TV
If you live in an area where fireworks can be heard, turn on a radio or TV to help drown out the noise. The WOBM staff will be happy to keep your pets company!

Make sure your pet has all their identification in order
On the off chance that your pet is spooked by fireworks and manages to escape, a microchip with your current contact information could make all the difference in getting your best bud back quickly. At the very least be sure that your pet has an ID tag with your contact info.

See your vet for advice
If your pooch has a history of being spooked by thunderstorms and fireworks, your friendly neighborhood vet can make some suggestions.
