There’s Something New at the Bayville ShopRite
I was talking to some of the employees at my ShopRite and they said, "Finally."
So many supermarkets have them: self-checkout lanes. Literally, they went up in a couple of days.
There are four self-checkout lanes and they still have open lanes with cashiers. When I was in the ShopRite last night, there were employees at the self-check-out helping if you need it.
There are positives to having self-check-out. Lines seem to move much quicker. There were many times I was in the ShopRite and the lines were lined up back to the cereal aisle. This might help things move along a little faster. Also, the store looks a little neater with the new self-check-out lines. It looks clean.
I believe the reason why so many stores have self-checkout lines is to save space. After talking to the employee at the Bayville ShopRite, it is because the self-checkout lanes are a lot smaller and give them more space. Now, customers that shop at the Bayville ShopRite have a choice. If you do not want to interact with a cashier, use the self-checkout. I would think it's a win, win all around.
My only concern would be the employees. I only hope that cashiers don't lose their jobs.
If you're not sure how to use a self-checkout, here's what to do. I'll try to help as much as I can.
Step 1 - Put your grocery items in the designated area. If they don't all fit, keep them in your cart until they fit in the area.
Step 2 - On the screen right in front of you, touch the start button.
Step 3 - Each thing you buy has a bar code on it. Scan the bar code at the red light. Sometimes it takes a while, so have patience. It will read your bar code.
Step 4 - After scanning the bar code place your items in the bag. Bags are right on the side and easy to place items into.
Step 5 - When every item is scanned and place in a bag or back in your cart, it's time to pay. It will ask you if you would like to use your card or cash. Either way, it will walk you through it very easily and quickly.
Do you self-checkout or do you choose the cashier?
