Displaced Belmar residents can apply for financial assistance through a new grant program announced by Mayor Matt Doherty. He says a total of $300,000 was raised through the efforts of a Borough web-based donation drive and a matching grant from the Robin Hood Foundation of New York.

Doherty says "we have been amazed and touched by the outpouring of support for Belmar in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. This grant program will allow us to extend that support to those who are still displaced from their home." He says "Belmar is recovering, but we will not be whole again until everyone is home."

Doherty says the grant program will focus on assisting families who remain displaced as of January 1st, 2013. He says qualified families can apply for up to $5,000 per household.

Applications will be made available at 9:00am Thursday, February 14th on the Borough's website www.belmar.com. The can also be picked up at Borough Hall.
