Anyone who grew up in the New Jersey/New York area will likely remember a Christmas tradition that started right here - a crackling televised fireplace broadcast on loop for hours.

The Yule Log TV tradition started right at New York's channel 11, WPIX, in 1966.

It spread to other cities and lasted for decades, but the original 1966 era Yule Log video was thought to be lost forever until recently.

Filmed at New York City's Gracie Mansion, the home of the Mayor, the original film ran every Christmas from 1966 until 1969, when the film was thought to be too worn out.

So this Christmas, a tri-state area tradition will continue with the film that started it all half a century ago, as PIX-11 plans to show the original Yule Log on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
