The Best Christmas Gift Ever!
This is the first of two straight segments in which I share some exciting and important news with you. This one clearly falls under the “exciting” category as I am a grandparent for the second time as my son Brandon and wife Jill welcomed their second son into the world last Thursday at Hackensack Medical Center. Luca Francis Williams was a shade under 9 pounds and honestly is perfect.
Your emotions really get tested when you hold a newborn in your arms for the first time and like with his 4-year old brother Carter I can’t help but wonder what the future holds for him. I won’t be around for most of it but hope to get to share some birthdays and milestones down the road. I’m excited to see his older brother and he bond over the years and I hope they become each other’s best friend. (I know there will be many fights down the road but that’s okay).
I have said before that I was never in a hurry to be a grandparent because for the most part it would just mean I was getting older. However I watched some of my friends and saw the joy they experienced, some of which I have already had despite some rough times with my own medical issues. Now I want to have double the fun as Jane and I enjoy life as “Gpa” and “Nona” which I’ve learned is about the best thing you can be called. As grandparents you get all the fun stuff and then can give them back at the end of the day. Spoil them rotten and then let the parents deal with the sugar rush they are on.
Seriously it’s a wonderful stage of life even if it does mean you are getting older…it might be the best benefit that comes when you get to 15th hole or later. We love Carter and will love Luca every bit as much and can’t wait to see him again on Christmas. It truly is the best gift I could ever imagine.
