No Shopping Thursday! See What Stores In NJ Are Closed On Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a time for family and rest because it gives people a break from their busy lives. Families come together to share a meal, talk, and enjoy each other’s company. The long weekend also lets everyone slow down, relax, and appreciate what they have. It’s a peaceful time to reconnect and feel thankful.

Why Are We Seeing More Businesses Returning To Being Closed on Thanksgiving Day?
Many businesses are choosing to close on Thanksgiving again because people shop more online, making it less important to open stores that day, and companies want to give their employees a real holiday to rest and be with family. It also saves money on holiday labor costs and helps businesses look more caring and family-focused.
What Major Stores Are Planning To Be Closed On Thursday For Thanksgiving?
According to a recent post from The Hill, these stores will remain dark on Thanksgiving Day:
- Aldi
- Best Buy
- Costco
- Dick’s Sporting Goods (Most Locations Will Open at 6 AM Black Friday)
- Hobby Lobby (Stores Will Reopen at 8 a.m. on Black Friday)
- Home Depot
- Home Goods
- IKEA
- JCPenney (Opens at 5 AM Black Friday)
- Kohl’s (Opens at 5 AM Black Friday)
- Lowe’s (Opens at 6 AM Black Friday)
- Macy’s (Opens at 6 AM Black Friday)
- Marshalls (Opens at 7 AM Black Friday)
- Old Navy
- Petco (Opens at 8 AM Black Friday)
- PetSmart (Opens at 7 AM Black Friday)
- Sam’s Club
- Target
- Trader Joe’s
- TJ Maxx (Most Will Open 7 AM Black Friday)
- Walgreens (24-hour locations will be open)
- Walmart (Stores are expected to reopen for regular hours on Black Friday)
So don't worry about shopping and finding deals on Thanksgiving Day; spend time relaxing and being with family and friends. There are only a handful of days like this each year, so stop and smell the "turkey".
By the way, I wish more stores would go back to making Black Friday fun again. Stores used to have special in-store promotions on Black Friday as well as super savings deals. Give shoppers a special reason to go out at 5 am and shop, rather than just staying home and looking at their phones for Black Friday sales. Just my two cents.
