SpaceX’s giant new rocket blasted off on its first test flight Thursday but exploded minutes after rising from the launch pad and crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.

It's a situation described as "sub-optimal" but manageable by one of the astronauts on the mission.

The SpaceX "Falcon Heavy" rocket is set to launch from Kennedy Space Center at 3:45 this afternoon. When it does, it will become the most powerful rocket ever launched.
