A Brooklyn man is headed to prison for conspiring with others in a strongarm extortion scheme in New Jersey that involved hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The tar balls were first found at Seven Presidents Park in Long Branch and in Monmouth Beach on Nov. 27 with similar oil debris found on the shoreline in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
The Coast Guard in a statement said response crews have removed approximately 1,000 pounds of tar balls and oiled debris from impacted beaches between Asbury Park and Sea Bright.
