Class A North

No. 6 Howell 10, No. 10 Manalapan 9

Senior goalie Colin Fay made a man-down save with five seconds left in regulation and the Rebels held off a late rally by the Braves to begin their season with a victory.

A man-up goal by junior attackman Jack Marich gave Howell a 9-6 lead with 9:16 left in the fourth quarter but Manalapan battled back on a goal by sophomore midfielder Grant Carle and two straight goals by sophomore midfielder Marc Stefanelli to tie the score 9-9 with 4:43 left in the game. Howell answered less than a minute later, however, when senior midfielder Dax Kukan scored unassisted with 3:43 on the clock to provide the game-winning goal.

Howell nearly ran out the final three minutes of the game but Manalapan regained possession with under 30 seconds left and Howell was then flagged for a penalty to give the Braves an extra-man opportunity with 13 seconds left. Stefanelli took the ball on the restart and passed to Carle for the bounce shot that was stopped by Fay to preserve the victory for Howell.

Senior midfielder Doug MacKenzie led Howell with four goals, junior attackman Nate Lorenzo had two goals and an assist, Marich scored twice, Kukan and senior midfielder Tyler Tyler Burns had one goal apiece, and senior attackman Vin Burn had four assists. CJ Calafiore added one assist. Fay made 12 saves and senior Glenn Giordano went 9-for-18 on face-offs.

Stefanelli led Manalapan with four goals while Carle had scored three times and won 12 of 16 face-offs. Senior Frankie D'Amore added a goal and an assist, sophomore Anthony Macchio scored once. and sophomore Christian Zdiarski had one assist. Senior goalie Alex Kaplan made six saves

 

Class B South

No. 4 Wall 12, Barnegat 0

Junior attackman John McCurry scored five goals and junior attackman Euguene Haghighi notched a hat trick to lead the Crimson Knights to a season-opening shutout of the Bengals.

Junior Connor Moore added two goals and one assist, senior midfielder Matt Dollive had a goal and an assist, senior midfielder Jake Davis scored once, and junior LSM Dominick  Giglio had an assist and picked up eight ground balls. Sophomore Robert Langworthy had a dominant day at face-off X, winning 12 of 14 draws.

Wall led 5-0 after the first quarter and 11-0 at halftime.

 

Nondivisional

Brick Memorial 3, Ocean 2

Senior midfielder Henry Lindquist scored twice, senior attackman Dan Aulisi scored once and picked up six ground balls, and senior goalie Paul Mazzeo made three saves as the Mustangs won a defensive battle vs. the host Spartans to open the season.

Matt Cohts had one assist, Jake Gallo collected five ground balls, and Christian Valenzola won 8 of 9 face-offs.

Sophomore midfielder Ben Girard had a goal and an assist and senior attackman Michael Terry scored once for Ocean.

 

Red Bank Catholic 19, Central 1

Senior attackman Anthony Muniz and junior midfielder Sam Fertal each registered five goals and one assist as the Caseys overpowered the Golden Eagles on opening day.

Junior midfielder Torin Harmon and sophomore attackman Jackson Lu each had four goals and one assist. Sophomore attackman Peter Villare added a goal and an assist, junior defenseman Nick Cosimano and sophomore midfielder Logan Graham had one assist each, and sophomore midfielder Brian Vecchio won 14 of 17 face-offs. Gianvito Viola made three saves in goal to earn the win.

Red Bank Catholic led 10-0 after the first quarter and 15-0 at halftime.

 

Holmdel 14, Brick 1

Senior attackman Kyle Kapcsos tallied six goals and two assists, Dylan Lagana scored three times, and senior attackman Evan Cohen had two goals and one assist to power the Hornets to a victory over the Dragons.

Sophomore midfielder Will Gilfillan and senior midfielders Jaden Gallo and Aidan Lagana added one goal each, senior midfielder Jared Battaglia had two assists, and freshman Jack Powers won 14 of 15 face-offs.

 

Point Boro 15, Marlboro 2

Senior midfielder Aidan Kirk scored five goals and added four assists and freshman Brady Kirk delivered three goals and four assists to lead the way for the Panthers in their victory over the Mustangs.

Junior attackman Brian Ostrander added three goals and one assist, senior attackman Matt Koehler scored three times, and junior midfielder Nick Campbell added a goal and an assist. Senior defenseman Matt Meccia chipped in with two assists, junior FOGO Tommy Morris won 14 of 15 face-offs, and senior goalie Matthew Azzarano made four saves.

 

Jackson Memorial 17, Freehold Township 3

Senior attackman Matt DeRosa scored five goals with two assists and senior midfielder Charlie Harrison sank four goals and added three assists to power the Jaguars past the Patriots and give first-year head coach Pat Conti his first career win.

Senior Justin Perillo had three goals and one assist and sophomore Drew Barocas also scored three times with one assist. Charlie Gumina and Alex Ariel added one goal each. Harrison also won 13 of 17 face-offs while Hunter Olsen made 17 saves.

Nick Carnevale scored twice, Jaden Buckley scored once, Aidan Harrington and Ryan Rowolt had one assist each, and Connor Brown made 12 saves for Freehold Township.

 

St. Rose 4, Middletown North 1

Senior midfielder John Harold had a goal and an assist, junior LSM James Vitale scored a goal and picked up eight ground balls, and juniors James Magrini and Sean Lattimer scored one goal each to lead the Purple Roses to a win over the Lions.

Senior midfielder Colin Westhoven added an assist, six ground balls, and won 5 of 9 face-offs while Cameron McManus and Chris DeVoy each made three saves in goal.

 

Donovan Catholic 19, Long Branch 2

 

Nonconference

No. 1 Rumson-Fair Haven 12, Lenape 0

Senior midfielder Philip Passalaqua and junior midfielder Cole Cashion each tallied three goals and one assist and junior goalie Will Setteducate made six saves to earn the shutout as the Bulldogs blanked the Indians under the lights at Borden Stadium.

Senior FOGO Noah Beacher was dominant at the face-off X in winning 14 of 15 draws. Senior midfielder Tommy French added two goals and one assist, senior attackman Dan Garvey and senior midfielder Jack McCarren each registered a goal and an assist, senior attackmen Christian Bockelmann and John Maguire each scored once, and junior attackman Bryce Devlin and Quinn Stankovits chipped in with one assist each.

 

No. 2 Manasquan 13, Moorestown 2

 

No. 3 Southern 13, Holy Spirit 2

Senior attackman Ryan Sininsky scored five times and senior attackman Jack Kolbe notched a hat trick as the Rams overwhelmed the Spartans in a neutral site game at Stockton University.

Senior midfielder Zach Washco and junior midfielder Joey DeYoung each scored twice while senior midfielder Jake Washco scored once and junior attackman Hayden Lucas had two assists. Senior FOGO Kurt Falk won 10 of 16 face-offs and senior goalie Tyler Sininsky made five saves and did not allow a goal.

 

No. 5 Shore 14, Monroe, 5

Senior attackman Carson Cooke scored five goals and added three assists and sophomore midfielder Sam Madalone totaled five goals and two assists as the Blue Devils scored an impressive road victory over the Falcons.

Senior midfielder Jamie Mazzacco contributed three goals and three assists and sophomore attackman Carson Spallone tallied a goal and an assist. Ben Levy added two assists and Aidan Murphy and Andrew Decker each had one assist. Junior goalie Walker Hunter made 14 saves.

 

Bergen Catholic 11, No. 7 CBA, 10 (2OT)

Junior attackman Ian Macrae scored with nine seconds left in regulation to force overtime but the visiting Crusaders pulled out the win when Nicholas Muller scored with 2:58 left in double overtime.

Junior attackman Nick Blalock led CBA with three goals and one assist while senior attackman Ty Feiler and sophomore attackman  Ryan Martin each scored twice. Macrae finished with a goal and two assists, senior defenseman Peter Canterino had a goal and an assist, and freshman LSM Quinn Kelly scored once. Senior midfielder Aidan Guinnessey added three assists. Sophomore goalie Brandon DeSena made nine saves.

Crispin Kaye led Bergen Catholic with six goals and one assist while Muller had a goal and six assists.

 

No. 9 Middletown South 8, Old Bridge 4

Senior midfielder Luke Rohrmann led the Eagles with three goals and two assists while sophomore midfielder Colin Gallagher and junior attackman Steve Kirchner each scored twice to lead the way in a victory over the Knights.

Brendan Gilbert scored once, John Beyer and Kevin Dunphy had one assist each, and Beau Servidio won 8 of 14 face-offs.

Middletown South built a 6-1 halftime lead.
