Jaws did not come to visit swimmers in Monmouth County on Sunday.

Sea Bright police said reports of a shark spotted off the Driftwood Club turned out to be a sunfish, according to a published report in NJ Advance Media.

Swimmers were told to stay away from the beach after the fish was spotted around 4:30 p.m. All warnings were canceled about four hours later after it was confirmed the fish was not a shark. Sunfish are often mistaken for sharks.

NJ Advance Media said a video posted on social media showed beachgoers looking at the water while standing on the beach.

There have been seven shark attacks in North Carolina since June, but experts claim shark attacks in New Jersey are rare. In fact, the last shark attack was in 2006 on Long Beach Island.
