TGIF, and by that I mean Thank God It's Fall.

Next to spring, fall is without a doubt my favorite season, and for good reason!

You have fall activities like pumpkin carving, cider drinking, and Oktoberfests, plus, as my wife would say, fall fashion is the best fashion.

She's talking about flannel if you're curious.

Those are all good reasons to like fall, but the reason it's one of my favorites is because of Halloween, and all of the horror and lore that comes with it.

New Jersey is no stranger to the paranormal; the Jersey Devil, The Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May, The Parkway Phantom, and the Spy House are popular NJ haunts we love to talk about.

What I think is really interesting is the amount of supposedly haunted roads in the Garden State.

Haunted roads aren't something I've heard about much, but ever since moving to Jersey I've heard all about haunted roads like Clinton Road, Burnt Mill Road, and even a road called Indian Curse Road!

Those all sound like perfectly terrifying ghost tales, however, I believe I've stumbled upon a haunted New Jersey road whose name alone sends shivers down your spine.

Have you heard of Shades Of Death Road in Warren County, NJ?

Even if this road wasn't chock full of paranormal sightings and a truly brutal past I'd just assume it's haunted!

Shades of Death Road runs along Jenny Jump State Park and connects Christopher Columbus Highway and Hope Road.

Rumor has it, according to WierdNJ.com the area the road runs along was originally home to a savage group of squatters who would often get into fights that ended in murder.

WeirdNJ.com also says another story of the road's dark past is that the trees hung low over the road causing shade, so the road was originally called Shade Road.

At the time there were also a strange amount of deaths along the road.

So naturally, settlers in that area just added death into the name, and Shades of Death Road was born.

As far as hauntings go, Only In Your State says that the nearby, and aptly named Ghost Lake is the home to several Native American Spectres who drowned there and still roam the surrounding road and forests.

If you ever find yourself driving this road at night, don't be surprised if you see a ghostly figure in your review mirror.

Personally, I'm shifting into high gear and getting off that road as soon as possible if I ever find myself out for a Sunday drive.
