News of its completion comes in the form of an electronic message board according to the Patch of Ocean City. The sign says, “New traffic pattern 7 a.m. May 14.”  A DOT spokesperson says on Monday a series of traffic shifts will let crews get ready to open four lanes of traffic (tentatively) by Tuesday, May 15.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation began work in 2006 to replace the Route 52 Causeway bridges and the roadway section between Somers Point and Ocean City, including the elimination of the Somers Point Circle. The Causeway will not only help traffic flow better into Ocean City but is also considered a critical part of the its emergency evacuation route.

Work on a visitors center, fishing piers and other amenities on the causeway will continue through the summer, but the lanes of traffic will be complete.
