In a matter of hours the New York/New Jersey football landscape changed dramatically last night for the teams that share MetLife Stadium although it will take some time before we really know the magnitude of what went down.

Clearly fans of the Giants and Jets have very different takes on the moves made by their beloved teams.

The football earth first started shaking when word came that the Giants had traded talented but at times troubled wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns just a year after signing him to a 5-year, $90 million contact.  The 26-year old three-time Pro Bowler is one of the league’s top playmakers and at his best as good as any receiver in the NFL.

OBJ also brings a lot of drama and that has resulted in problems on and off the field.  While many fans expressed their anger with the trade over social media there are other Giant fans who feel he’s been a headache who never appears happy.

Clearly there are many with #13 jerseys who are confused by the trade which saw the Giants get back a first and third round pick in next month’s NFL Draft along with safety Jabril Peppers.

By the way the Browns and Beckham visit MetLife Stadium this coming season but won’t be playing the Giants but rather the Jets who have acquired the most prominent free agent in this year’s class.

Just hours after Twitter went crazy over the Giants trade reports began circulating that the Jets were making noise of their own by agreeing with running back Le’Veon Bell on a four-year contract worth $52.5 million with $35 million of that guaranteed.

The 27-year old had five very productive seasons with the Steelers before sitting out last year over a contract dispute.  Bell is clearly excited about joining the Jets after tweeting early this morning “I’m back in the green baby, let’s get it.”  Actually I’m wondering if he is referring to money more than the Jets.

Either way it was an amazing few hours and the debate over what transpired will rage on but it will take a couple of years before we really know who won and who lost.
