Caring and Coffee Come Together To Help NJ Families With Children Battling Cancer
Childhood cancer is a situation we hope you will never have to deal with. The reality is that many will have to face this dreaded disease and see their child in a battle to survive. This disease causes both physical and emotional stress not only for the patient but also for the entire family.

You may not hear about it every day, but childhood cancer affects more New Jersey families than many people realize. On average, about 275 to 280 children in New Jersey are diagnosed each year.
Behind every one of those numbers is a family whose life changes in an instant, and they start focusing on treatments, appointments, and staying hopeful. It’s a reminder of why community support can mean so much.
New Jersey Families Battling Cancer Get a Helping Hand
This story is about two organizations coming together to help families battling childhood cancer. One is a cancer support group and the other a local coffee shop.
An organization that helps families when dealing with a child with cancer, Embrace Kids Foundation, has a mission that is simply put, "helping families," here in New Jersey. Their mission statement "Embrace Kids Foundation exists to lighten the burden, maintain normalcy and improve the quality of life for families whose children are facing cancer, sickle cell and other serious health challenges. Embrace Kids addresses the spiritual, emotional and financial needs of patient families in the New Jersey/New York City metropolitan area."
We spoke with the Executive Director of the Embrace Kids Foundation, Glenn Jenkins.
The Embrace Kids Foundation does fantastic work, and if you have ever wondered "how can I help," well, this may be the answer you were looking for. Help a family that is dealing with the ultimate stress. The power of helping can truly be a blessing.
The other part of our story is about a local business that has made it its mission to help the Embrace Our Kids Foundation and Make-A-Wish. Let me introduce you to Pop's Coffee Shop. This excellent coffee shop in Ortley Beach serves a great cup of coffee and serves the community.
Their website tells their story. "I grew up working in my mom and dads coffee shop while I was in high school. They sold coffee for .25 a cup and it was fresh brewed! I learned many valuable business lessons over the years that have made me successful in the business world. One of the biggest things I learned was how to treat customers and build relationships that can last a long time. Last year we lost my mom after she got Pancreatic cancer and in what seemed like the blink of an eye our lives changed forever. My dad lost his spouse of 55 years, his soul mate and his business partner all at once. I decided that the best way to honor her memory was to create Pops coffee shop so my dad at 81 years old now would have a place to go and meet people and create some more relationships as they had done together for so long. I also wanted to create something good for our community and a legacy for my children and my family for generations to come."
Pop's Coffee Shop is located at 1951 RT 35 North Ortley Beach NJ 08753. They are open Daily 7:00AM TO 2:00PM Memorial Day Weekend thru Labor Day Weekend.
We will be visiting Pop's Coffee Shop at the end of July (7/31 11 am to 1 pm) and we hope you will stop by and say hi, have a coffee, and help the Embrace Our Kids Foundation. It is going to be a feel good day that helps local families in New Jersey. More details to come.
