Routine Stop Leads To High Speed Chase Killing 2 In Tinton Falls
A handgun spoted by an officer during a motor vehicle stop in Tinton Falls led to a high speed chase killing 2 people.
Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni says police pulled over a car Wednesday night, noticed a handgun inside and grabbed it before the driver sped away.
After a 100 mph chase, the car hit several trees, killing two of the three people inside. The third is hospitalized in serious condition.
Their identities were not released, pending notification of relatives.
A second handgun and ammunition also was recovered.
The prosecutor says police did not fire at the fleeing car.
Shafto Road was closed all night and into the morning commute.
No police officers were harmed in the accident.
