In a surprise announcement, Payless ShoeSource announced yesterday that they will be filing for bankruptcy and closing 400 stores nationwide. Of those closings, 7 will be in New Jersey.

Payless ShoeSource operates five stores in Ocean County; in Brick, Lakewood, Toms River, and Lacey Township.

The closings, however, all avoid the shore. The NJ stores targeted to "immediately close" are as follows:

East Rutherford
Marlton
East Brunswick
Phillipsburg
Bloomfield
Cape May Courthouse
Englishtown

You can get the full list of the 400+ store closing from the company's official list by clicking here.

This of course follows right on the heels of Toms River's J.C. Penney avoiding closure. As well as Macy's (so far), and a number of restaurant closings that have also managed not to impact Ocean County.
