Ocean Gate teen brandished handgun and ran from police in Beachwood
An Ocean Gate teen who was seen brandishing a handgun in Beachwood then led police on a foot chase, now sits in the Ocean County Jail.
The action that's led to incarceration for the juvenile took place on August 6, around 5:15 pm.
Beachwood Police said that's when they responded to the 1500 block of Windward Avenue for a reports of a male brandishing a handgun.
Sgt. Griesemer, Officer Batullo, and K9 Team Manganiello & Ace used the information, including a description of the individual with a gun, provided to them by a witness to respond effectively to the scene which shifted to the 1500 block of Pacific Avenue as the teen with a gun moved.
Officer Manganiello had begun speaking to the male -- who did not wish to comply with the officers directions -- and opted to flee on foot instead.
Police then began round 2 of a search for the teen with the handgun, along with K9 Ace, and it was officer Batullo who ended up finding the juvenile hiding in a wooded area.
Realizing he was spotted, the suspect ran away from the officer, sparking another foot pursuit, albeit brief in nature and concluding in the back yard of a residence.
The juvenile was arrested.
When he was, police found him to be in possession of a loaded firearm and over 2 ounces of marijuana.
He was processed and charged with multiple weapons offenses and eluding by flight.
All charges were approved by Chief Juvenile Assistant Prosecutor Anthony Pierro and the juvenile was transported to the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
Due to New Jersey's new Marijuana Laws, penned earlier this year by Governor Murphy, Beachwood Police said that "the juvenile was issued a written warning for possession of marijuana."
The Beachwood Police Department said that the Ocean County Prosecutors Office including the OCPO Narcotics Strike Force officers assisted them in this investigation.
