I saw a piece on the Today Show that made me feel good about the college students of America.  Many are spending Spring Break doing service projects rather than just partying in a hot spot.  These "Clean Spring Break" trips give students a chance to give back while getting to know the locals and their culture.

For example, teams of volunteers help clean up construction areas on hurricane ravaged islands.  My own nephew spent some Spring Break trips working with Habitat for Humanity, building houses down South.  He loved the experience, bonded with his team mates, had fun, and got the satisfaction of knowing he made a difference is some families' lives.

Let's hear from you college students from Ocean County.  Have you ever gone on one of these service trips?  If you are the parent or grandparent of a student who has helped out a volunteer organization while on a break, please give them a shout out in the Comments section.

And by the way, those of us who are already out of school, there are lots of opportunities to give back while travelling.  You can get more information if you search for "voluntourism."
