2019 seems to have started out on a rough note for some longtime Shore businesses, with a number of sudden closures and bankruptcy aftershocks hitting our area.

And now speculation is high that another national chain will be closing altogether and liquidating all of their assets.

According to MarketWatch, experts are anticipating that kid clothing specialist Gymboree Group Inc. is about to declare bankruptcy.

With a dozen locations (including 4 outlet stores) in New Jersey, the forecasts expect that the company will close all 900 of its stores, including the Ocean County Mall location.

Of course, this comes hot on the heels of the news that the final Kmart in Ocean County, on Route 37 in Toms River, is closing as part of the long Sears bankruptcy process that has been playing out for over a year now, and also swept up the Ocean County Mall's Sears and Brick's Kmart in its wake as well.

We'll keep you updated if and when the Gymboree news becomes official and an official list of locations pegged for closure comes out and a time frame for the bankruptcy become clearer.
