It's not like I expect phone scammers to abide by a code of ethics, but Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastronardy is warning the public about a scam that ripped off a 77-year-old cancer patient.

The Asbury Park Press is telling the story of the man who is undergoing treatment for stage 4 colon cancer, and who became the victim of the scam to the tune of $18,000.

Sheriff Mastronardy says that the scheme is part of ongoing efforts by criminals who are likely outside of the country to target Ocean County senior citizens.
