A Lodi (Bergen County) man remains hospitalized after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Toms River on Wednesday morning.

Toms River Police said that the 42-year-old man was outside of the marked crosswalk when he stepped into traffic at the intersection of Route 37 and River Drive around 9:30 am.

The driver of the vehicle that was heading eastbound along Route 37 at the time stayed at the scene following the accident and police said that he showed no signs of being impaired.

Police said that the pedestrian was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City for treatment of his injuries and as of today, remains in critical condition at the hospital.
